I need a comic-style artist to assist me in bringing my novel and screenplay L.A. Stalker to life as a graphic novel. My reasons for doing this are purely mercenary: 1) Graphic novels are becoming increasingly important in the publishing world. Sales are skyrocketing, and not just for mainstream comics like Spiderman and X-Men. Independent graphic novels and comics have found a big niche in the book world, a niche that is growing. Graphic novels by independent small presses are one of the few genres that actually command the same respect in the brick-and-mortar bookstore world as books from the major publishers do. 2) Graphic novels are increasingly being used by movie makers as subject matter for films. The Road to Perdition, Constantine, Sin City, and The Crow are just a few of these films. Hollywood loves a good graphic novel because it has done a few important steps in the movie making process already. It has taken a short story and set it into a screenplay/storyboard format. It's easy for a director to read a graphic novel and visualize a movie. Since breaking into the movie business is a goal of mine, I believe that turning this novel into a graphic novel is a positive step in that direction. Okay, now for the details. I've been through this type of process a time or two and I am tired of being burned by wannabes and daydreamers. If you're serious, you have nothing to worry about. I'm a professional and I'll treat you like one. I've crafted the following conditions to make sure I both weed out those who are not serious, and to encourage those who want to develop L.A. Stalker into a viable, bankable project. |
| What
kind of artist am I looking for?
I'm open to anything except Anime or Hentai-style artwork. No disrespect meant to fans of this genre; I simply don't like it. I'm also not open to any cartoonish or childlike work. The novel is pretty dark and it just wouldn't fit. I'm open to cutting-edge and daring work. It seems many of the best graphic novels are ones that have thrown out the rulebook. Still interested? Proceed... What is L.A. Stalker? You can read about it here. The novel has also been adapted as a screenplay. My assumption is that the screenplay may adapt more easily to a graphic format. Take a look at the excerpts and such, then come back here. Still interested? How much am I going to pay the artist? Ah. The big question. If I had a huge bankroll, I wouldn't be running this ad, looking for a collaborator. I would just go out and hire one. The truth is, I'm looking for someone to split this project 50/50. As a token of good faith, I'll pay the artist a little money up front. But the payoff for both of us will be when and if we sell the final product. All work will be agreed upon in a written contract. Because of this, if you're under age 18, we can't do business. I've found many young artists out there whose work is exceptional, but people under 18 cannot legally enter into a contract. I don't know anything about the creation of a graphic novel, so all creative license will be given to the artist. However, final approval of the graphic work will remain mine. Still interested? Email me at dlkilpatrick@hotmaildotcom and we can discuss things further. If you are not interested, but know of someone who may be, feel free to forward the link to this page to them. |
